11th Rafael M. Salas Cup held at Camp Aguinaldo
With the theme “Equality, Empowering, Delivering for Women”, the 11th Rafael M. Salas Cup will be held on Nov. 7, 2018 at the Camp Aguinaldo Golf Club (CAGC). Former President Fidel V. Ramos an avid golfer himself leads the pack of 100 golfers joining the Salas cup.
The Salas Cup is named in his honor, to perpetuate his memory as “the best administrator of his generation.” Epitome of good governance and transparency in government, he faithfully dedicated himself in the service of his country occupying various private and government posts notably as executive secretary of the late former President Ferdinand E. Marcos.
Mr. Salas served as the first executive director of the United Population Fund (UNFPA) attaining the rank of undersecretary-general from 1969 to 1987. Under his leadership, UNFPA grew from a small trust fund into the world’s largest multilateral provider of population assistance to developing countries. He was a pioneer in the field of population who advocated the importance of understanding the dynamics between population and development and the need to take demographic factors into account in development planning. For his heroic endeavors, Mr. Salas is known as Mr. Population a name to this day is carried in the halls of the United Nations.
