EL NIDO, PALAWAN is one of the top tourist destinations in the country. Behind its marvelous beaches and islands, the local government and health unit is faced with rising early pregnancy among teenagers and HIV infection.

March 23-24, 2018, the Youth congress with the theme “Kabataan Palakasin, Pamumuno Paggtibayin, Hinaharap ay Pagyamanin” aims to empower the youth of El Nido and engage them in discussion and providing solutions to address issues faced by young people. Among other topics, the main point of the discussions is SRHR. The Forum provided inputs in the discussion of SRHR. It includes orientation on the RPRH Law and young people’s benefits under the law, Adolescent SRH, SOGIE and elimination of gender-based violence, HIV and AIDS.

Hon. Nieves C. Rosento, the Municipal Mayor encouraged the young people to help the local government in addressing the concerns of the youth of El Nido. She encouraged the youth to learn, share and participate and to put the importance of education in their hearts. She urged the participants to value education as key to a successful future, for self, family and the community – of El Nido.

The Forum for Family Planning headed by Chi Laigo-Vallido provided an orientation on the Rights and Benefits of the RPRH Law and adolescent reproductive health, including HIV and AIDS. Happening at the same time is a small group workshop “Bridging the Gaps in Teaching ASRH” participated by 20 teachers.

The Youth Congress ended with the commitment of the young people to join the campaign of the Municipal Government headed by the Mayor herself to stop HIV and stop Teenage Pregnancy.
